This morning, Jason La Fleur of Eco Achievers participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking of the first LEED multifamily project in Chicago's western suburbs. This five-story condominium development sits a few blocks from the vibrant downtown Oak Park entertainment district, and close to Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio.
During the design phase, Eco Achievers is providing several multifamily services, assisting with optimizing the building's energy efficiency, assessing heating and cooling loads, designing the mechanical systems, and general building envelope consulting.
During construction, Eco Achievers will be administering construction quality assurance and air barrier inspections, and will be performing blower door testing, duct leakage testing, and ventilation flow rate testing on all of the units to ensure the as-built conditions match the design. As the LEED for Homes Green Rater, we also will be verifying all aspects of the project's LEED checklist.
The project consists of 4 stories of residential units with the ground floor being used for covered parking and a lobby. According to the developer's web site, "Each unique home layout boasts open floor plans, allowing buyers to personalize to their taste, while the spacious terraces and great rooms are perfect for entertaining."
The green luxury condo market has proven to be a successful niche for the development, with 60% of the units pre-sold prior to today's groundbreaking. Eco Achievers is excited to work with the project team, who has a genuine commitment to constructing the best performing building possible at a reasonable price point.
