LaFleur Residence (624 S. Humphrey Ave.)

GreenStar Gold Remodel Project (Pending)

The LaFleur Residence, originally built in 1912, has been remodeled over a period of 10 years to increase energy efficiency while maintaining the character and charm of a vintage structure. In order to achieve an environmentally responsible method of remodeling, framing materials and doors were reused throughout the renovation; no exotic woods were used on site, and forest products involved were mostly reclaimed. To ensure future sustainability, this single-family residence was refitted with a tankless water-heater, low-flow plumbing, energy efficient fixtures, programmable thermostats, and a RenewAire Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) system credentialed under ENERGY STAR v3.

Durable, healthy materials and finishes coupled with native landscaping (>40%) and a passive radon system promote higher air quality.  The house also features an integrated on-site stormwater management system with a rain garden, French drain, and multiple rain barrels. Finally, property location near CTA lines and commercial centers equates a high transit score (72), walk score (71), and fosters green habits; the site is also bike-friendly.

During the remodeling process, none of the construction waste was buried nor burned. The LaFleur Residence is enrolled in the Illinois GreenStar program and is featured on the 2015 GreenBuilt Home Tour. For more information, please contact us!
